The 7 Principles: Addiction Recovery Curriculum

Teaching Recovery Through Biblical Knowledge

With our faith-based rehabilitation program, our team has been able to guide and empower thousands of men down a path of true recovery. We equip all of our service recipients with foundational knowledge, extensive tools, and an understanding of how beautiful and gracious life can be without addiction. Spring 2 Life Recovery offers a unique Bible study for recovering addicts, providing spiritual support alongside traditional recovery methods. The Bible teaches us that all mankind needs the Word of God, and His scripture leads us to create good in the world. We can reach this point of clarity and unity thanks to the 7 Principles Christian Addiction Recovery Curriculum.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17

The Curriculum

“We integrate the words of God throughout our program, relating addiction struggles to the challenges of life and how to overcome those obstacles without shame. We guide our service recipients to avoid adhering to any stigmas of identity, such as “once an addict, always an addict.” We know this isn’t true, and we’re here to show that there is life beyond addiction.

As part of our comprehensive treatment program, Spring 2 Life Recovery includes an addiction recovery Bible study to address the spiritual needs of our clients. Are you or someone you love struggling with addiction recovery? Let’s start walking down the road to your new life.

We believe God’s word sheds light on the real hope that addiction is curable; it does not need to define your identity for the rest of your life. We work with our service recipients through the 7 Principles addiction recovery curriculum to show them with faith, perseverance, trust, and God you can live your life no longer labeled an “addict.”

The 7 Principles

Many addiction rehabilitation centers and recovery programs put all of the weight on the clients shoulders creating pressure and shame to recover quickly and stay clean. We can be so focused on ourselves at times we fail to trust that God has a purpose for us and is with us every step of the way. When we forget to fully trust in God’s work, we miss out on true guidance and recovery.

Participating in the addiction recovery Bible study can enhance your spiritual growth and provide you with biblical insights that are relevant to overcoming addiction. The 7 Principles are here to show you what it means to truly recover from addiction through the teachings of God’s scripture, His promise, and your own will to embrace God’s path for you.

We see that God’s plan for us isn’t just to be obedient to “stop or to abstain”, but it’s ultimately about growth and gaining the strength through The Holy Spirit.

Group of people sharing experiences about the Christian addiction recovery curriculum.

Here at S2L Recovery, we pride ourselves on embracing a non-12 step recovery program because we know there’s more to recovery than just 12 preconceived steps. Everyone’s journey is different, everyone’s heart is in a different place and everyone is ready for a different “next step.” With that in mind, we knew to create a faith-based rehab space for those seeking help beyond the traditional recovery centers.

Incorporating Bible study for recovering addicts into the treatment program, Spring 2 Life Recovery emphasizes a holistic approach to healing the mind, body, and spirit. Our Christian addiction recovery curriculum travels further than spiritual behavior modifications and really hones in on seven Christ-centered principles found in scripture.

“(5) For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; (6) and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; (7) and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love”.
2 Peter 1:5-7: NIV

We dive into these principles because in the previous verses it says, “God gives us everything we need for a godly life…

“(1) Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: (2) Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. (3) His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. (4)Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having ESCAPED the corruption in the world caused by EVIL DESIRES.”
2 Peter 1:1-4: NIV

The design of life and the beauty to enjoy it comes from the goodness of God. Addiction to anything comes from a lack of satisfaction in life because a needed component of our life is missing for completion. We choose drugs and alcohol to temporarily resolve this frustration until it becomes out of control. We need a way to “escape” our fleshly desires–a “corruption of the world.”

Not only do these 7 principles drive our recovery program, but God’s promise is also a crucial component in this journey to a new life. This promise, in conjunction with the 7 Principles addiction recovery curriculum, allows our service recipients to find their way out of a life of addiction and into a more fulfilling future.

“(8) For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. (10) Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, (11) and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
2Peter 1:8-11 NIV
